Venting his fury at a potential rival, Herod plays a percentages game: he spreads the net of his anger widely; kills every boy under two in order to ensure he kills just one. He fails. Fury and anger usually do - though that is scant consolation to the mourning families of the innocent who suffer. Meanwhile Jesus, the Saviour who is saved, is visited by unlikely people: in this case, shepherds and foreign rulers.

We grieve with hope, because we believe that Jesus died and rose again.
I am looking forward very much to getting to know many of you, joining the team at Grays Thurrock, working with the churches and especially ministering at All Saints. I originate from Leytonstone/Stratford where I grew up in a non-Christian home that had little connection with church, but it was in Essex where I found faith and later began to minister as a Reader in the church. Now ordained 18 years I have worked in this diocese and St Albans, and for the last ten years as Mission and Evangelism Adviser for Chelmsford diocese. My passion is for churches and Christians to reach out to their communities with the love of God in Christ and see lives transformed, every person is special to God and all of us can make this known in our communities as we pray for ‘doors’ to open. ‘Give all thou canst; high heaven rejects the lore / Of nicely calculated less or more.’ (William Wordsworth) Reminder: Regular giving is needed for any church, charity etc. When this dips it has a knock-on effect. Our giving was down in August and September on the previous year. A key part of the problem seems to be that those who were giving by planned giving envelopes are not regularly giving electronic payments. If those who are now making electronic payments were to give regularly (monthly) by standing order this would be one step to solving the problem. WHAT’S ON THIS WEEK THURSDAY 16th November 2017 10am Morning Prayer followed by open church until 12 noon.
