Grays Thurrock Team Ministry

Hello boys and girls ……. My name is Sam

I have just moved into All Saints Caravan,

that is on Chafford Hundred.

I live here with some of my other friends, Edward Bear and Ray                                      the Rainbow Snake!! He used to live in Tasmania, now he is visiting here.
He’s a real ‘Ray’ of sunshine, ha ha ha!!

I get visits from other people too, a lady called Lynne visits a lot and she
brings lots of boys and girls to see me and we have fun. Singing,
telling stories, gluing and sticking, we decorated biscuits this week,
and playing with toys.

Lynne told us a great story the other day.

Do you want to hear it:

Peacock Zoo….

There was a new zoo to be opened up in the
middle of the Town, everyone was so excited.

In charge of the new zoo was Mr Peter Peacock, he was a very proud peacock (as all peacocks are) and he strutted around the zoo as he proudly looked up and down the perfectly laid lawns and paths.

He seemed to be like a king looking around his kingdom, ‘this will be the best zoo in the world, and everyone will want to come to see it’ he said to himself, ‘because I will choose who lives here, I will interview every animal to see if they are good enough for MY zoo.’

The day of the Interviews came and the first to be interviewed
was an Elephant.

Peter Peacock thought he was too big, too grey and too fat,
the elephant was sent away.

Next came some monkeys, they jumped
and squealed as they came into the zoo,
and they dropped their banana skins.
Peter Peacock was horrified, the monkeys
were obviously too loud, too messy and too giddy,
                                                             no good for ‘HIS’ zoo.

They were sent away too.

Next came the giraffe, he slowly but elegantly walked in. Peter Peacock looked
up and up and up, Peter thought to himself ‘this giraffe is far too tall’.
The giraffe was sent away too.

Peter had one more interview to go, so he waited and waited.
Slowly and surely in came the tortoise. He took his time, as all tortoises

do, and he arrived, very late, but he did arrive.

He was lovely tortoise all smiles and shell.

Peter Peacock had waited long enough and was very
tired. ‘This tortoise is far too slow’ he thought to
himself. He sent the tortoise away too.

By the end of the interviews he had not accepted
a single animal to live with him in the new zoo.
But as he was such a confident peacock he did not
think there would be a problem. He was certain that
all the boys and girls would love to come and see HIM.

BUT…

No one came when they heard about the empty zoo…..

Peter thought that the zoo was perfect, so peaceful and tidy.
But he was so very lonely with no-one to talk to.

One day a little mouse came by, she had a look at the empty zoo
and went to see Peter. He was pleased that someone had come to                                                              talk to him and he listened to her.

She convinced Peter that it wasn’t much of a zoo without other animals but him in it! So, reluctantly, he invited all the animals to come and live with him.

They soon moved in, The monkey’s made him laugh at some of the tricks they played, even if they were a bit messy. The elephants soon picked up and put the old banana skins in the bin. The giraffes kept a look out and told Peter of any mess and all the animals lived happily together. But… best of all… boys and girls came to the zoo and always went away happy.

Peter Peacock had to admit to himself ‘It is a wonderful zoo, even if it isn’t perfectly peaceful and tidy’.

The End

Jesus tells us stories like that too, in God’s special book, ‘The Bible’,
Lynne says that Jesus wants us to be just like that, being friends with
other boys and girls and accepting them even if they look different to us.

I think that is really good, we all look different don’t we.

Here is a picture you might like to colour in.

A grown up will print it off on their printer for you if you ask them nicely.

Each month I will write about my adventures with my friends. I m going to ask Auntie Sarah if I can get emails, Lynne has said she will help so I will let you next month. It would be lovely to know about your adventures and you could send me jokes to tell my friends too.
